The Art program at Falls Road Primary School is based on the current Visual Arts Curriculum. A focus is placed on the students learning the skills, techniques and processes to allow them to express their creativity. There is a deliberate attempt to manage a balance between products and process, whilst exposing students to a wide range of art forms and media. While students are aware of behavioural expectations, it is considered a priority to create a relaxed atmosphere in the Art Program in which the students feel comfortable to take educational and artistic risks. The program has an ‘open door policy’ in which parents and families are invited to become involved through volunteering time, skills and ideas.
Our Music program caters for all strudent in Years 1 - 6 and is based on a very hands-on learning approach. The junior students explore their music through singing, movement and percussion playing while the seniors learn to read, write and play music using a variety of tuned and non-tuned percussion instruments as well as keyboards and ukuleles. Students in Years 4 - 6 are invited to join the choir and perform on several occasions throughout the year. Selected Year 5 and 6 students are also offered an opportunity to learn clarinet, guitar or flute through the School of Instrumental Music program.
Students in Years 4 - 6 also have the opportunity to be part of our school choir. The choir practises once a week and particpate in music performances throughout the year. In 2019, they will participate in the 'One Big Voice' concert as well as 'Stirkfest' which is a Bibbulmun Education Network activity. The Junior choir, made up of students in Year 2 and Year 3 also participate in the 'Stirkfest' concert.
Physical Education Program
Falls Road PS runs a specialist Physical Education Program for students in Years 1 - 6. The program in Years 1 - 4 focuses on teaching the Fundamental Movement Skills of Body Management (landing, balancing, twisting, turning etc...), Locomotor Skills (hopping, jumping, dodging, skipping etc...) and Object Control (throwing, catching, kicking, striking, bouncing and dribbling) using hands/feet or racquets. The Year 5 and 6 program focuses on hand/eye skill development and applying these skills to game situations across a number of sports. Both programs aim to highlight the enjoyment of participating in physical activity whilst also developing a range of skills. The PE program is complemeted by fitness sessions run in classes throughout the school.
Languages Other Than English (LOTE) Program
At Falls Road Primary School, the LOTE language is Italian. Each Wednesday the students in Years 3 - 6 have the opportunity to be involved in Italian lessons. This program is run by Mrs Sarah Schubert . The program is a mixture of oral and written activities. The school has also developed a partnership with the LOTE program at Lesmurdie Senior High School. A couple of times a year, students from Lesmurdie Senior High School buddy up with the younger students at Falls Road PS and act as peer tutors. This is enjoyed by students at both schools.
